A Message from the Minyon Corps

Please join us on Sunday mornings at 10:00 am for a short lay-led service with fellow members. During the winter, we usually congregate in the sanctuary. When the weather gets warmer, we gather in the Inter-faith Garden. We meet every Sunday, whether or not religious school is in session.
After the service, some of our members meet at a neighborhood restaurant and enjoy a relaxing brunch. Any questions? Contact Geri Zacks gzacks@ameritech.net or (248) 320-3074.) We look forward to seeing you.

At Temple, We Want to do "Broadway Our Way"...

Shir Shalom has talent and we want to show it off! We are looking for singers, dancers, musicians or anyone with a special talent for a variety show that will be performed in the spring of 2008. The project is a huge undertaking and will require talent and commitment. We need volunteers for backstage support including costuming, scenery design, set construction, lighting, etc. The show will be for adults only and performers must be at least 18 years old. If you would like to be a part of this exciting project, are willing to audition for the show, or want to learn more, please contact Hank Heiser at arcade711@yahoo.com.

Spend Chanukah Next Year in Jerusalem with Rabbi Moskowitz

My first trip to Israel was at the age of 11 with my parents and brother, my rabbi and his family and a bus filled with other synagogue families. That experience helped begin my love for Israel and my passion for our faith. I will never forget walking up to the Western Wall for the first time, my father holding my hand in his and the emotional impact of that moment. I want you to have that kind of experience next year.

The Family Mission 2008 is about to begin registration. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to travel to Israel with families from our community next winter. Temple Shir Shalom wants to be a very strong part of this trip, so we need all of those planning on going to register AS SOON AS REGISTRATION BEGINS on December 13. Whether or not you have been to Israel, this is a wonderful way connect with our homeland and with families from Shir Shalom.

For more information, go to the Federation link and read about this spectacular opportunity.

http://www.thisisfederation.org/familymission/default.asp

Here's the catch. There is only one plane chartered for this mission (direct from Detroit to Israel), which means it will sell out. Registration will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, and I do not want anyone from our temple to miss out because they waited to sign up. Therefore, make sure you register AS SOON AS REGISTRATION BEGINS - at 9:00 AM DECEMBER 13, 2007.

Next week, when you light your Chanukiyot, imagine what it would be like doing this in Jerusalem next year. Now, let's make this happen.

What is Shabbat Camp?

Shabbat Camp is a special time for children ages 4-10 (no diapers, please) to celebrate the Sabbath in a unique environment. As you might have guessed from the program's name, our goal is to emulate the warmth and spirituality of the Jewish summer camps that so many of have enjoyed. With our Shabbat Camp Counselors Julia Music and Ido Meron, the children will say the Shabbat blessings, read a story, create an arts and crafts project, and then join the congregation downstairs for a special blessing from the Rabbis.
