How Can I Volunteer?
Temple Shir Shalom offers a number of opportunities for members to become involved in our temple. This is a list of some of the opportunities for which a member may volunteer. Please contact the Temple office at 248-737-8700 and let us know what you where you would like to help!
Assist in the development of advertising and promotional material that goes to both the congregation and the public. Social media development. Keep congregants informed of up-coming events through the Scribe and other media.
Tikkun Olam (Social Action)
Assist in humanitarian endeavors of the Temple
Bond together in the spirit of Tzedakah, or charity. The Brotherhood seeks love, friendship and social ties with our Temple family; to facilitate and aid in the work and deeds of other Temple members and groups.
Lev b’Lev (Sisterhood)
Offers the opportunity for women to make connections through camaraderie by performing acts of goodness collectively, while celebrating our faith in Judaism.
Assist in the development of long range financial planning and fundraising.
Caring & Shiva
Provides members to lead Shiva services and helps families with special daily care needs.
Under the expert guidance of Cantor Penny Steyer, we have both a youth and adult choir that you or your children can participate in.
Keeps our young adults connected to the Temple and their Judaism.
Assist in the development of a variety of family programs for our congregants.
Assist in the development of fundraising initiatives to help raise money for the congregation on a yearly basis.
Responsible for greeting members and visitors at religious services.
Help to keep the Temple’s building, grounds, and equipment in good working order.
Offer your legal expertise in ways that can help Temple.
Assist in organizing and maintaining Temple’s library and archives.
Work on programs designed to engage new and established members in Temple life.
Assist in day to day administrative tasks, answering the phone, congregational mailings, etc.
Provides a welcoming and meaningful Jewish experience for all people–Jews and non-Jews, interfaith and Jewish families. Assist in reaching out to our diverse congregation and help to inspire all who seek a sacred community within Shir Shalom.
Help to plan social, educational and fundraising events for Temple.
Religious School (SHORESH)
Assist in the religious school office with administrative tasks and/or help on Sunday’s with various class related and school related tasks.
Responsible for distributing prayer books, seating members and maintaining decorum at services.
