Join Shir Shalom's Social Action Committee as we partner with Life Remodeled for their Six Day Project, which is mobilizing thousands of volunteers in six days to beautify Detroit’s Cooley community!

We’re removing blight from the front yards of vacant properties (clearing debris and cutting down overgrown grass, weeds and brush) as well as mowing the lawns of seniors, veterans and people with disabilities. These activities greatly increase the level of interaction between community residents, students, and the volunteers who live outside the Cooley Community.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and wear closed-toe shoes and the free volunteer shirt provided. Volunteers should bring their own work gloves, protective eyewear/sunglasses, extra water and snacks.

Life Remodeled will provide all the tools (mowers, weed whips, loppers, rakes, trash bags, etc.).

Below is the schedule for your volunteer day:
11:15 - 11:30 AM: Volunteer welcome
11:00 - 11:45 AM: Arrive at Cooley High School & board buses to command center
12:00 - 4:00 PM: Blight removal and beautification on assigned block
